The NT division of the Australian Association of Gerontology addressed the issue of lateral violence at its 2012 Conference, themed Elder Abuse and Neglect: A Cause for Action.

Charles Darwin University's acting Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor Martin Carroll welcomed keynote speaker and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner Mick Gooda to the campus recently.

Lateral violence includes bullying, gossiping, jealousy and family feuding, which are critical issues within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and can have a serious impact on the health and wellbeing of many Elders.

The conference took place on 7 September 2012 at the Mal Nairn Auditorium on CDU's Casuarina campus.
