Charles Darwin University has awarded some talented Territorian writers as part of the 2012 NT Literary Awards in the categories of Travel Short Story and Essay.

Recognising the Territory's best poems, short stories and essays from across Central Australia, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Darwin, the NT Literary Awards encourage and reward Territory writers of varying ages and backgrounds, from the novice to experienced authors.

The 2012 Charles Darwin University Bookshop Travel Short Story Award was awarded to Karen Manton for 'The Slow Living Diary', while the 2012 Charles Darwin University Essay Award went to Leni Shilton for 'Looking for Bertha Strehlow – giving voice to silence'.

CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover congratulated the winners, who were honoured at the awards ceremony at Parliament House this week.
