Automotive lecturer Robert Tucker wishes best of luck to driver Jason Wegert at Arunga Park

The racing car built by automotive students at Alice Springs campus exceeded expectations at its first run at Arunga Park speedway and may get a run in the Territory titles this month.

Certificate III Automotive student Jason Wegert drove the street stock vehicle in three races, for two thirds and a second.

"No dents, no scratches and three minor placings made for a pretty good night out," Jason said.

Automotive lecturer Rob Tucker said it was a particularly impressive result given the race against the clock to have it ready in time.

"It was a good performance for its first run but with some tweaks to the suspension it should prove even more competitive," he said.

"We'll make those adjustments before the next round on 12 November and if all goes to plan we will consider entering it in the Territory titles on 26 November."
