Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President Global Strategy and Advancement

Mr Andrew Everett

Andrew Everett commenced as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President, Global Strategy and Advancement, at Charles Darwin University in May 2017. His portfolio includes leadership of CDU International, CDU’s Confucius Institute, and the Advancement Office.

Prior to joining CDU, Mr Everett worked in a consulting capacity to the Queensland Government, leading the development of the State’s International Education and Training strategy 2016 to 2026. He also assisted in the review of Education Queensland International, the unit responsible for the public schools throughout the State that enrol international students.

Mr Everett has spent more than fourteen years in leadership roles in the UQ International office, at The University of Queensland. Initially as Manager, International Development, a role closely supporting the University’s Executive in international linkages and projects. This included the development of the ‘University of Da Nang – University of Queensland English Language Institute’ on the main campus of the University of Da Nang. The Institute delivered English language training to people of the Central Region of Vietnam.

Mr Everett was subsequently appointed to the role of International Director at UQ, a role he occupied from 2004 to 2016. His portfolio included managing a network of staff based around the globe and establishing UQ’s offices in Washington DC and Jakarta.

During the period Mr Everett was at UQ, he provided leadership at the Global, National, and State levels in international education. He has been the consortium Lead of the Universitas 21 (U21) International DVC / PVC /Directors group, the Lead on the U21 Student Mobility group, and the Lead on the U21 Student Experience group. He is a past Chair of the Group of Eight International Directors, a past member of the Executive of the Australian Universities International Directors’ Forum, and a past Chair of the Qld International Directors’ Forum.

He has been asked to speak at international education conferences in various cities, including San Francisco, Sydney, New Orleans, and Berlin, where he has given papers on international marketing and recruitment of international students, managing the experiences of international students in a global context, best practice within a global consortium of universities, and the development of an institutional framework to measure and manage an institution’s international engagement.

Mr Everett is CDU’s representative to meetings of Universities Australia’s, Deputy Vice-Chancellors International.

Mr Everett worked at the University of Southern Queensland, as Manager of the International Centre, and Director of Postgraduate Studies in the Faculty of Business. Prior to entering working in management roles in education, Mr Everett spent a significant period in the finance sector, including responsibility for the management of the majority of the Bank of Queensland’s commercial loan portfolio.
