After a career nursing in acute care, urban and remote communities, as well as teaching secondary school science and Darwin Hospital nurse trainees, Janie Mason entered academe in 1983.

Janie was Chair of the Academic Board from 2001-2003 and a member from 2000-2006. She served in various representations for seven years on the University’s Council and was head of the School of Nursing 1997-2000. After many years on the NT Trades & Labor Council, Janie served as the first woman president of the NT Trades & Labor Council 2000-2004.
