CDU Technology Showcase 2014

In the last year ITMS has been working on introducing new technologies to CDU. At the CDU Technology showcase we would like to introduce you to them and demonstrate how they work.

The technologies we intend to show you are

Open All | Close All

Jabber

Jabber is the new instant messaging client at CDU. It is replacing Microsoft Communicator which is being retired.

Jabber will allow you to;

  • Communicate with your colleagues via instant message, voice/phone from your Desktop, Laptop or Mobile device.
  • Communicate with your colleagues on devices other than just your MOE7 PC! (Such as Mac, Android, iPad.)
  • Communicate with your colleagues from home or abroad, without need for a VPN connection!
  • Integrates with your Cisco work phone - Dial from within your chat session, or answer office landline calls on your mobile device!
  • Allows multiple conversations and threads to be in one window!
  • Check your voicemail, manage call forwarding and share your desktop in a single application.

Software Center 

This is the new method of getting software onto your CDU Windows computer.

Software Center allows you to;

  • install software,
  • monitor software installation and
  • remove software installed via "Software Center".

The benefits for you are;

  • It allows you to find available software easier.
  • The ability to view software grouped into categories.
  • Software you have installed using Application Catalog/Software Center can be removed by you.
  • View a description and links to help information for each software item.
  • Set your own business hours, when you don't want "Software Center" to interrupt you  (default 5am - 10pm)

WebEx

WebEx is a new way of communicating at CDU. It brings video conferencing to your desktop. It allows you to collaborate with your colleagues both local and distant. Not only can you meet with multiple individuals in a virtual meeting environment.

WebEx will;

  • Allows Recording of  Meetings
  • Integrates with Outlook and Jabber
  • Creates calendar entries in Outlook that can forwarded as invites
  • Allows sharing of desktop and remote control
  • Has an inbuilt whiteboard
  • Allows you to conducts polls and questionnaires
  • Allows Sharing of files
  • Allows note taking of meetings

eCentre

eCentre is a CDU application for all people working at CDU that provides the following:

  • update you CDU phone directory listing
  • Make requests and approve requests of subordinates
  • check the status of your computer account
  • check and acknowledge policies that apply to you

LogIT

LogIT has replaced the old email address. It allows you to

  • log a job with ITMS at any time, 
  • monitor the progress of the job.
  • close the job if it is no longer required.
