Temporary student accounts

A temporary student computer account is temporary by nature and is intended for short term use.

  • accessing computing lab PC's (to research and complete assignments, or if the units you are taking are taught in the labs)
  • accessing the Internet from the PC labs and library
  • external presenters for use in teaching/meeting rooms.

A temporary student account is to be used by staff or students to access student computers and the internet for short term use pending account activation.  All CDU Students are Staff are encouraged to use their CDU provided accounts for study or work purposes.
E.g. when an enrolment delay prevents the creation and activation of a normal student computer account, a temporary account could be used so as not to miss any lessons or content delivered in the computer labs.

Note: Temporary accounts are only provided under specific circumstances and are usually only for a short period of time. Please contact our ITMS Service Desk should you have any enquiries.

A temporary account allows access to log onto CDU Student computers and to the access the internet.  Temporary accounts are for short term use and for a maximum of 30 days or one to two days for events.

At the end of the expiration date the account will be deleted and cannot be extended past it’s expiry date.

Important note for staff with student-type teaching accounts - If you are an academic staff member with a student-type teaching account which is used by students under the age of 18, the responsibility for proper use of such an account falls to you individually.

For external clients the request is received via an Event Confirmation (if you stated at the time of booking the room a temporary account is required) an email is received close to the event date to complete the temporary account creation form and return via email.  Once received and approved an activation email is received.  Follow the instructions to activate the temporary account prior to the event date.

For external clients, the requirement is stated when booking a room with CDU Facilities. Close to the event date and email will be received to complete the temporary account creation form and return via email.  Once the completed form is received and approved an activation email is received.  Follow the instructions to activate the temporary account prior to the event date.
