A Charles Darwin University student has joined a select group of talented undergraduates from across Australia in receiving a prestigious scholarship.

Law student Jared Ivory will travel to Indonesia to study at Gadjah Mada University and undertake a legal internship as part of his New Colombo Plan 2015 scholarship.

The Federal Government scholarship allows students to study and work in the Indo-Pacific region in a bid to strengthen Australia’s ties with its neighbours.

“It’s a really fantastic initiative and it helps you get exposure and experience in the Indo-Pacific region,” Jared said.

“I applied for the scholarship because of the sense of adventure, and because it will help me to develop and grow as a person to be a future leader one day.”

He said the scholarship would also help him build relationships in Indonesia and gain insight into the region.

“The Indo-Pacific is our neighbourhood and it makes absolute sense for us to build strong relationships with our neighbours to build a better world,” Jared said.

“Indonesia is one of our closest neighbours and they can be one of our greatest allies.”

He thanked CDU International Projects and Operations Manager Sally-Anne Hodgetts, Head of the School of Law Ned Aughterson and law lecturer Danial Kelly for helping him apply for the scholarship

“CDU has helped me throughout this application process, and in preparing me for my future career goals,” Jared said.

“The members of the School of Law have always been approachable and it’s great to receive mentorship from these people who are experts in their field.”

Jared was one of 69 students across 23 Australian universities to receive the New Colombo Plan 2015 scholarship.
