Thousands of CDU students will graduate as part of several graduation ceremonies in Darwin


The hard work has paid off for thousands of Charles Darwin University students who will graduate as part of several graduation ceremonies in Darwin this week.

Along with those donning their academic robes for the first time, several high profile attendees will be honoured.

Indigenous Elder and educator Waymamba Yinamara Gaykamangu will receive a Doctor of Education, Honoris Causa in recognition of her outstanding contribution to advancement of education, particularly in the field of Indigenous knowledges, language and culture.

INPEX Browse Ltd Managing Director Jiro Okada will receive a Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa in recognition of his pivotal role, leadership and advocacy in supporting the establishment and development of the Ichthys Joint Venture. Mr Okada will also give the occasional address as part of Friday evening’s graduation ceremony at the Darwin Convention Centre.

CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks will give the occasional addresses at today’s (Thursday, 29 May) ceremony and at the morning ceremony on Friday, 30 May.

More than 3000 VET and higher education students will celebrate their graduation with family and friends around Australia in May and June.

The ceremonies will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre on May 29 and 30. Other ceremonies will be held in Adelaide on June 17 and Alice Springs on June 19.
