The beauty of everyday objects will shine during a student art exhibition at the Nan Giese Gallery on Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus.

Honours student Stephanie Martin said her fascination with the way light interacted with transparent household objects inspired the exhibition, “Lighting the pass, the object as lens”.

Stephanie said the exhibition of 14 photos and a video installation aimed to celebrate the bursts of gold and other colours created by the transmission of light through mundane objects.

“The exhibition aims to remind people that there are wonderful spectacles of light and colour happening right under our noses,” she said.

“Hopefully it will encourage people to take notice of these extraordinary domestic moments that often go unnoticed but can be quite beautiful.”

Since returning from Melbourne to her hometown of Darwin earlier this year, Stephanie said the project had helped her to reconnect with the city.

“I’ve been away from home for a long time and the project has helped me to fall back in love with Darwin and appreciate the extraordinary light play in this space,” she said.

The exhibition is being held by appointment at the Nan Giese Gallery at Casuarina campus until Thursday (3 November).
