Matthew has instructed and appeared as counsel before great variety of forums from administrative tribunals to the Federal Court and High Court of Australia. He is an experienced mediator having held a number of statutory appointments in the Northern Territory. He regular appears to deliver evidence on native title matters before Parliamentary Committees. He is a former member of the Council of Australian Law Deans and a former Director of the Law Council of Australia.

Teaching Experience

Matthew has taught across many subject areas at CDU including Property, Mining, Indigenous Legal Issues, Professional Responsibility, Vendor & Purchaser, Environmental Law, Military Law, Clinical Legal Education and Constitutional Law His particular interest is in the areas of natural resource management law, native title and Indigenous economic development.
