In June 2017, a group of academic researchers from Australia, Canada, Croatia, Sweden, and Austria visited Malå to get ‘on the ground’ experience for an international project looking at the future of small villages in sparsely populated areas.

The Malå fieldtrip provided inspiration for new research into demography, entrepreneurship and business development, and community development in villages with just a few dozen or few hundred inhabitants. Participants in that field trip, including the research leaders, return to Adak to share what they have learned and to help design the next stages of the research.

All the presentations include information from research in the Malå region, and will be useful for community leaders, business people, and those with an interest in the future of their own village.
