This talk will report on progress of the Tropical Disease Regional Research Collaboration tuberculosis initiative in eastern Indonesia. We are undertaking implementation research using health system strengthening and quality improvement approaches, to improve the delivery of tuberculosis contact management and investigation.

The project, led by PhD student Dr Trisasi Lestari, bridges a major policy-practice gap. A multi-component intervention is underway at a number of TB care facilities in Timika, Papua Province, Indonesia. Impacts on the ‘cascade of care’ (number of contacts investigated; number of contacts eligible for preventive therapy; number of contacts commencing therapy) are plotted over time to measure impact.

Data from the first seven months of implementation will be presented.

Anna is the Head of Menzies Global Health Division and senior clinical research fellow as well as a staff specialist in infectious diseases and general medicine at the Royal Darwin Hospital. Read more on our website.
