Title
Dialysis service provision in remote and regional NT - what are the costs and benefits

Abstract:
Maintenance dialysis is costly and resource intense. Concerns about costs and sustainability have limited dialysis service provision in remote areas and many patients are compelled to relocate to access treatment. Patients have expressed a strong preference for services closer to home and treatment options counter to patients’ preferences are known to affect uptake, with flow-on effects for other healthcare use. This study aims to provide a robust analysis of direct dialysis provision costs in urban regional and remote areas as well as considering costs related to overnight hospital admissions, thus allowing a valid comparison of the costs of urban and remote dialysis provision.
