Mobile broadband and social media technologies are transforming the way societies function. We seek to understand and leverage these changes through new collaborations that that span computing, health, and education, with application to Australia’s Top End, a place of significant cultural and linguistic diversity. This two-day workshop will bring together researchers, app developers, and leaders from local community organisations to address the following topics:

  • state-of-the-art in mobile technology for health and wellbeing
  • technology for recording and sharing narratives of personal resilience
  • design methodology for apps targeting disadvantaged and vulnerable populations
  • needs assessment for self-management of chronic health conditions
  • opportunities for mediating diverse languages, cultures and worldviews
  • mining the social web: data analytics for predicting impact
  • new methods for driving engagement in mobile apps

The program will consist of presentations, discussions, and working groups, and we expect to produce recommendations that will guide new initiatives in technology and wellbeing. Professor Steven Bird is an Adjunct of Northern Institute.  Read his BIO
