The application process

Review the position profile

Before lodging your application, you will need to read the position profile. A copy of the position profile will be available as an attachment to the vacancy and will provide you with an insight into the requirements and competencies of the position.

Eligibility

Where a position is advertised as “internal only” only current CDU staff many apply. International applicants are required to have a right to work in Australia or qualify for temporary work visa.

Address selection criteria

To enable the selection committee to assess your suitability for a position, you are required to address the selection criteria specified in the position profile.

You should address each selection criterion individually and cite evidence, using examples, to support your claims, rather than just presenting a list of facts. Please be aware that if you do not address the selection criteria, you may not be considered for the position.

Short-listing

Following the meeting of the selection committee, arrangements will be made to interview short-listed applicants that have demonstrated the necessary competencies and qualifications to meet the requirements of the role.

Interview

Interviews may be conducted by the selection committee face-to-face, by phone or via Webex / Skype. The interview process will include an introduction, a set of behavioural questions, possible activity / presentation and an opportunity for you to share additional information and ask relevant questions.

Verbal reference

If identified as the recommended candidate you will be requested to provide details of your referees. Please be sure to let your referees know to expect to be contacted so they can ensure they are available.

Salary negotiation

Upon receipt of suitable reference reports the Chair of the selection committee will engage in salary negotiations and starting date.

Offer of employment

An actual offer of employment is only valid when issued by the Director, Office of People and Capability.

If successful you will be sent an electronic offer of appointment, specifying the terms and conditions of your employment. You are advised not to resign from your current employment until this formal offer has been received and accepted. All applicants will be notified by email at the conclusion of the recruitment process.

Staff criminal history checks

If your position with the University requires that you obtain a Criminal History Check (CHC) and / or Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) it is your responsibility for initiating the CHC by submitting an application to SAFE NT before your first day at work.

Proof of submission of the application form must be provided to the Office of People and Capability in the form of the receipt for payment which states the date of lodgement. You can apply for your CHC at SAFE NT.

Feedback

Unfortunately it is not possible to provide feedback on all applications, however, unsuccessful interviewed applicants may request feedback from the Chair of the selection committee.
