Dr Jelena Zeleskov Doric

Lecturer - Psychology

Dr Jelena Zeleskov Doric is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist registered in Europe who lectures at Charles Darwin University, School of Psychological and Clinical Sciences.

Prior to joining CDU, Jelena worked as a Research Fellow at the School of Medicine, University of Belgrade and the Institute of Criminological and Sociological Research in Belgrade, Serbia. Moreover, before moving to Australia Jelena was working in private practice as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist for Sava Perovic Foundation Centre for Genito-Urethral Reconstructive Surgery in Belgrade.

Dr Doric is a clinical registrant of PACFA and GANZ in Australia who earned her PhD at the University of Belgrade, Serbia and a provisional psychologist in Australia registered with AHPRA.

Jelena completed a five-year program in Gestalt Psychotherapy at the Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute Malta and a two-year post-graduate program in Psychopathology and Contemporary Disturbances at Instituto di Gestalt, Italy. Jelena has participated in numerous gestalt and body psychotherapy trainings across the Europe and was involved in the work delivered by the Center for Somatic Studies, New York, USA.

In addition to this, Jelena was a Vice-President of the European Association for Gestalt Therapy and a Board member of the European Association for Psychotherapy. She is a full member of the American Psychological Association and the Australian Psychological Society.

Jelena is an international member of the Crime Control, Poverty and Justice Working Group and collaborator in comparative research study of prisoner reentry University of Michigan, USA.

Jelena's research, writing and advocacy focuses on attachment theory, resilience and therapeutic factors important in understanding the lives of prisoners and former prisoners.

So far, Jelena has authored and co-authored over 40 books, chapters, peer-reviewed papers, national and international conference presentations in the fields of resilience, attachment theory and psychotherapy. Since 2012 she has reviewed academic papers for various international journals. She has been awarded numerous national and international scholarships and fellowships. Moving forward, Jelena's research interest is to understand relational gestalt psychotherapy approach and its application within criminal justice system.
