Professor Indra Abeysekera

Professor Indra Abayasekera

Professor Indra Abeysekera is Professor of Accounting and Chair of Accounting and Finance at CDU. He previously held academic posts at University of Wollongong, University of Sydney, and Macquarie University.

He is a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant in Australia and a Chartered Management Accountant in the United Kingdom.

Prior to joining academia, Professor Indra worked in the private and public sectors. While in academia he has consistently engaged with the accountancy profession, holding various governance roles. Given his in-depth experiential understanding of both academia and practice, he skilfully combines conceptual approaches with practice to bring relevance to research.

Professor Indra has presented his ideas and research findings at refereed international conferences, professional accountancy institutions, and universities. His opinions on accounting and business matters have been featured on radio, television and in newspapers. He has been an invited keynote speaker at international conferences. He has created two YouTube channels to share knowledge with the world: Accounting online with Professor Indra Abeysekera, and DBA online with Professor Indra Abeysekera.

Professor Indra Abeysekera has presented and published over 100 peer reviewed articles and authored nine books. His research covers Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.

Indra’s research interests include emotional capital, intellectual capital, integrated reporting, financial and non-financial accounting, knowledge management, and accounting education.

Professor Indra has supervised nine doctoral students from start to completion.
