SITSS00048 Espresso Machine Operation

This skill set covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to extract and serve espresso coffee beverages using commercial espresso machines and grinders. It requires the ability to advise customers on coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and assess espresso coffee beverages and to use, maintain and clean espresso machines and grinders. Complex repairs of equipment would be referred to specialist service technicians. Additionally, you will learn to conduct financial transactions and deliver quality customer service.

There is a significant component of hands on coffee training with commercial espresso machines. This delivery is supported by theory-based activities and assessment tasks. Delivery is conducted over 4 days at either CDU Palmerston or Alice Springs Campus.

Entry requirements

You must:

  • be 18 years or older; and
  • not be attending secondary school; and
  • be able to demonstrate appropriate language, literacy, and numeracy skills and knowledge to undertake this course. This is demonstrated if you have completed a qualification deemed equivalent to an Australian Year 11 or higher, Australian Certificate III or higher, or by completing a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.

Essential requirements

To gain entry into SITSS00048 Espresso Machine Operation candidates must be domestic students aged 15 years or above. Applicants will be required to complete a learner support assessment to determine any support needs.

Fees

To be eligible for an NT Government funded place you must be:

  • a Northern Territory resident
  • an Australian citizen, permanent Australian resident or a New Zealand citizen who has resided in Australia for a minimum of six months

Fees

To be eligible for an NT Government funded place you must be:

  • a resident of the Northern Territory; and
  • a temporary visa holder who:
    • does not have work or study restrictions
    • has a valid visa for the duration of the training, allowing for the total volume of learning required to achieve the qualification, including supervised and unsupervised training and study
    • is not the primary provisional visa holder of a skilled, business innovation and investment, student, work or holiday visa identified on the Department of Home Affairs website.
