VTP264 4x4 Operations

This short course is designed to educate on how to traverse rugged and remote terrain safely. You are taught best practices and recovery strategies, and tips to ensure prevention of unsafe situations. You will learn basic vehicle maintenance and safety, how to drive safely on unsealed roads, uneven and difficult terrain including sand, mud and water.

This course is delivered face-to-face. It incorporates some theory-based activites and assessment, as well as a significant amount of outdoor driving activities and practical assessments.

Entry requirements

You must:

  • be 18 years or older; and
  • not be attending secondary school; and
  • be able to demonstrate appropriate language, literacy, and numeracy skills and knowledge to undertake this course. This is demonstrated if you have completed a qualification deemed equivalent to an Australian Year 11 or higher, Australian Certificate III or higher, or by completing a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.

Essential requirements

All participants are required to hold a current "C" class Australian Drivers Licence. It is recommended to wear outdoor clothing, enclosed footwear and sun protection.

Fees

To be eligible for an NT Government funded place you must be:

  • a Northern Territory resident; and
  • an Australian citizen, permanent Australian resident or a New Zealand citizen who has resided in Australia for a minimum of six months

Fees

To be eligible for an NT Government funded place you must be:

  • a resident of the Northern Territory; and
  • a temporary visa holder who:
    • does not have work or study restrictions
    • has a valid visa for the duration of the training, allowing for the total volume of learning required to achieve the qualification, including supervised and unsupervised training and study
    • is not the primary provisional visa holder of a skilled, business innovation and investment, student, work or holiday visa identified on the Department of Home Affairs website.

Course structure

To achieve VTP264 4X4 Operations a total of three (3) units of competency must be completed as detailed and listed below.
