Overview

This micro-credential provides an understanding of biodiversity and its components and the causes of biodiversity decline in the modern world, with an emphasis on the ecosystems, flora and fauna of northern Australia. This module also provides an introduction to threatened species and their assessment.

The course assumes limited knowledge of science and mathematics and participants can be Science students or from other disciplines.

Participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the components of biological diversity
  • Understand patterns of diversity in the past and reasons for ongoing biodiversity declines
  • Understand how biodiversity is assessed and the notion of threatened species and their categorisation.

A commitment of 10 hours per week over 5 weeks is required including classes, readings, investigation and assignments.

In 2023 this unit will be offered during Term 3 from July - September.

Admission criteria

Applicants must be 18 years old by the Census Date of the relevant admission period and have completed Year 12.
