This course is designed to enable students, after completing a four-year sequence in psychology, to become a registered psychologist but without the need to specialise immediately, compete for the limited places in specialised Masters courses, or exceed a high 2A in fourth year. That is, this course enables psychology students to complete the sequence that is sometimes called the 5 + 1 pathway.

This course does entail some other unique features. First, the students will be exposed to a greater diversity of clients than are students at many other universities. Second, students will be granted opportunities to utilize some of the latest advances in psychology, such as NIRSIT, used to engage in brain imaging.

The course includes coursework and practicum. Students will need to complete an additional year of supervised placement beyond graduation to be eligible for psychology registration.

Professional recognition

This course will be recognised by APAC as the fifth year of the 5 + 1 pathway to registration.
