VTP351 Operate and Maintain Chainsaws

2021

This course is suitable for people who would like to learn how to safely use and maintain a chainsaw.

It covers the following:

  • Operational maintenance of chainsaw engines;
  • Chain selection and sharpening;
  • Cutting techniques for felled timber.

Delivery is on location at the CDU Katherine Rural Campus.

Entry requirements

You must:

  • be 18 years or older; and
  • not be attending secondary school; and
  • be able to demonstrate appropriate language, literacy, and numeracy skills and knowledge to undertake this course. This is demonstrated if you have completed a qualification deemed equivalent to an Australian Year 11 or higher, Australian Certificate III or higher, or by completing a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.

Essential requirements

Assessment consists of a theory and practical component for each unit. You will be provided with more information at the commencement of the course. Students must provide their own steel capped boots and close-fitting long clothing.

Fees

To be eligible for an NT Government funded place you must be:

  • a Northern Territory resident; and
  • an Australian citizen, permanent Australian resident or a New Zealand citizen who has resided in Australia for a minimum of six months

Fees

To be eligible for an NT Government funded place you must be:

  • a resident of the Northern Territory; and
  • a temporary visa holder who:
    • does not have work or study restrictions
    • has a valid visa for the duration of the training, allowing for the total volume of learning required to achieve the qualification, including supervised and unsupervised training and study
    • is not the primary provisional visa holder of a skilled, business innovation and investment, student, work or holiday visa identified on the Department of Home Affairs website.
