Unit Class

This form is used to maintain the institution defined set of available Unit Classes. A Unit Class describes the time and mode of availability of a class. Unit Classes are assigned to Unit Offering Options to describe the way the class will be presented to students.

For example, a Unit Class EON could be used to define Classes offered on campus in the evening. Other examples are shown below.

The Unit Classes are defined for Unit Offering Options in CRSF2500 and the Unit Class values are mapped to Unit Modes in CRSF2160. Unit Modes are used to derive element 329, reported to the government in the HE Unit Enrolment and VSL Unit Enrolment data groups.

The Unit Class block contains:

• Unit Class
• Description
• Unit Mode
• Closed check box
• Day of Week
• Start Time
• End Time

• Enter Insert Mode
• Enter the code or name of the Unit Class in the Unit Class field of a blank record
• Enter a meaningful Description for the Unit Class in the Description field
• Select the appropriate Unit Mode from the list of values (or key a valid value) in the Unit Mode field
• Save

To delete a Unit Class using the Maintain Unit Classes form:

• Find the record to be deleted
• Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted
• Delete record
• Save

Rules/Notes:

If a Unit Class has been used in the definition of a unit, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.

A CLOSED Unit Class cannot be re-opened if the Unit Mode to which it is mapped is CLOSED.

To modify a Unit Class using the Maintain Unit Classes form:

• Find the record to be modified
• Modify the record as required
• Save

Rules/Notes:

If a Unit Class has been used in the Definition of a unit, only the description can be modified. This is not recommended unless the change in description is minor and does not affect the meaning of the Unit Class. A new Unit Class should normally be created.

A Unit Class can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.
