CDU welcomes the return of Chinese students to the campus
Charles Darwin University (CDU) looks forward to welcoming Chinese students back to campus, as post-pandemic restrictions in China continue to ease.
On the weekend, the Chinese government announced it would stop honouring online qualifications, which means around 40,000 Chinese students may elect to return to study at Australian universities.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman said this decision would be welcomed by CDU and was great for the Northern Territory.
“The COVID-19 pandemic meant that many international students had to switch their study to online from their home county,” Professor Bowman said.
“We welcome the return of Chinese students to study onshore at CDU’s various campuses in the Northern Territory and elsewhere.”
“The return of Chinese students is a great outcome economically and socially for the Northern Territory.”
“We know that many businesses are struggling with labour shortages and we know that each student contributes more than $40,000 to the local economy each year,” he said.
Prior to the COVID-19 restrictions, CDU had around 270 Chinese students studying on campus.
