Charles Darwin University (CDU) has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to bring in paid placements for certain study areas, including in regional and remote areas as it will help northern Australia’s essential worker crisis.

The benefit of paid placements for regional and remote communities in improving workforce numbers was a key reason that the recommendation was in the University’s submission to the panel developing the University Accord.

Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Northern Territory’s health sector have joined forces to help allied health students forge their career paths to support better health outcomes for Territorians.

Hosted at Gulwa | Austin Asche Hall at the Casuarina campus, CDU’s Allied Health Expo connected industry and academia to create opportunities for students to learn about real-world experiences of their fields, and secure employment in the Territory’s healthcare workforce.

For many people running in an ultra-trail race in central Australia might seem an unsurmountable challenge, but Charles Darwin University Paramedicine Lecturer Elissa Martyn is no stranger to adversity.

Ms Martyn also knows what to expect during the iconic race, as she has been on the sidelines as a paramedic looking after the runners in the West Macs Monster.

Last year, a weekend working as one of the race medics for the West Macs Monster planted a seed to bring awareness to issues that are close to her heart.

Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) goal of educating homegrown doctors is now a reality with the Federal Government granting $24.6 million to establish the CDU Menzies Medical Program.

The funding will allow the University to establish and operate the medical school from 2026 with 40 Commonwealth Supported medical places.

The Federal Government will also provide funding to support capital, establishment, and recurrent costs.
