CDU Bus Service helps students get to class safe and sound

Charles Darwin University (CDU) Student Council Vice-President Gilbert Tanoto said a new bus service for students made getting to class simple and safe.

The wheels on the bus will continue to go ‘round and ‘round as Charles Darwin University (CDU) expands its intercampus transport services.

A new bus with 28 seats and driven by a contracted security officer will make getting to class simpler and safer for more students.

CDU Student Council Vice-President Gilbert Tanoto said the bus was an important step towards supporting student safety.

“The CDU-supported bus provides a safe and reliable transport option, especially for students without personal vehicles,” Mr Tanoto said. 

“It reduces risks associated with walking alone at night, waiting at isolated bus stops, or relying on costly rideshares.

“For example, a student finishing a late class at Casuarina may feel unsafe walking to public transport in a dimly lit area. 

“The bus ensures a direct, secure ride between campuses, offering peace of mind – especially for international students unfamiliar with Darwin.”

The bus travels between the Danala | Education and Community Precinct, UniLodge, and the Casuarina, Waterfront, and Palmerston campuses.

CDU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Scott Bowman said he was pleased to see the bus service grow in popularity since its inception in 2024.

“The CDU Bus Service is a fantastic solution for many, and the feedback we’ve received for the initiative to date has been strongly positive,” Professor Bowman said.

“It gives our students the peace of mind they need to focus on their studies.”
