Charles Darwin University has responded to the recently announced Higher Education Relief Package with a suite of low-cost higher education short-course options aimed at helping support Australians impacted by COVID-19 to emerge with a new qualification.

Students can take advantage of a range of heavily discounted undergraduate courses in the areas of health, design, engineering, teaching, IT, languages, environmental sciences and more, that will be delivered online and completed by December 2020.

CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks said 14 new higher education courses were available due to the Commonwealth Government support package that assists providers to offer discounted short courses in national priority areas.

“Our staff have been working around the clock to provide options for students to take advantage of the heavily discounted courses,” Professor Maddocks said.

“We are committed to helping people gain the credentials to boost their career, or make a career change.”

The seven undergraduate and seven Graduate Certificate courses each comprise three or four university-level units (or subjects).

The short courses will be delivered over one semester – starting in July and finishing in December 2020.

Students who complete the undergraduate Certificate will be able to gain entry into most CDU undergraduate degree programs.

“Those who complete an Undergraduate Certificate can continue to study towards a full-length degree having already completed the first semester,” Professor Maddocks said.

“We want to support people to get back on their feet as much as possible. These courses will provide pathways for people to upskill or enter higher education courses in sectors that will be crucial to the future success of the country as it recovers from the COVID-19 outbreak, such as health and education.”

To further support students, CDU is waiving the Student Services and Amenities Fee for the remainder of 2020, meaning that new students who enrol in these programs can start with no up-front costs.
