CDU TAFE celebrates a 30th birthday at Open Day
Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) Palmerston campus and the Karawa Training Restaurant are celebrating 30 years.
CDU TAFE Deputy Chief Executive (Professional Service Industries) Robert Schwerdt said the Karawa Training Restaurant has proven popular with Territorians over the past three decades.
“What makes Karawa Training Restaurant so special and enjoyed by locals is not just the excellent service and quality of food that is prepared and presented by our students, but the unique experience itself,” Mr Schwerdt said.
“The community enjoys seeing young people practicing their skills and demonstrating them to the public in a lovely atmosphere overlooking a beautiful lake and campus.”
Mr Schwerdt said the skills and training students receive during their studies were tailored to the NT’s workforce and industry.
He said former students of Karawa owned or operated many of the Territory’s most beloved restaurants and hospitality venues.
Visitors to this year’s Palmerston Open Day will get a behind-the-scenes look at the commercial kitchen that spawned so many other commercial kitchens across the NT and beyond.
Future students will have the opportunity to explore a range of training options with a tour through the facilities throughout the campus’s Open Day events from 10am-2pm on July 12.
Attendees will also be able to try their hand at a range of trades on the day, including workshops for mocktails, baking, cooking, and butchery.
“The campus is unique due to its location within the Palmerston community, with easy access for locals, which is close to home, and the vibe on campus is provided by staff who have a passion for vocational education and their respective industries,” Mr Schwerdt said.
“There will be opportunities for young people looking for career options or even people looking for a career change to find specific information that they need.”
