New course offerings explored at CDU Sydney Open Day
Charles Darwin University (CDU) will showcase its expanded course offerings at the University’s Sydney Campus Open Day this Saturday, September 3.
The expansion includes new Information technology (IT) courses, such as Master of Data Science and Master of Cyber Security, as well as Master of Nursing Practice that will again be offered to graduate students in 2023.
CDU Associate Vice-Chancellor for the Sydney Region Penelope Sweeting said the Open Day gives prospective international and domestic students the opportunity to explore these new course options.
“It is an exciting time at the Sydney campus as we expand to offer a broader range of courses and continue to develop our teaching spaces including clinical teaching labs,” Ms Sweeting said.
“Open Day will demonstrate how CDU’s sophisticated teaching and learning facilities are supporting these new course offerings in the heart of the central business district, with world-renowned attractions on the doorstep.”
Ms Sweeting said expanding the Sydney Campus course offerings would increase the University’s reach in other locations around Australia.
“With state-of-the-art facilities and a central location, we would like to see a cohort of international students in Sydney,” Ms Sweeting said.
“We are the university for the Northern Territory, but we also want to increase our reach and impact in other parts of Australia. Our priority is to get domestic and international students into the Territory, but new students in Sydney would also give us a boost.
“CDU already has a strong presence in Sydney, and this is to ensure we continue to have a strong brand by showcasing the Territory’s uniqueness nationally, outside of the Territory.”
The specialised focus at CDU’s Sydney location spans Information Technology, particularly Cyber Security, as well as Nursing and Midwifery.
CDU Sydney Campus currently offers the Master of Nursing Practice (pre-registration) and delivers clinical-based training for a range of nursing and midwifery courses, including Bachelor of Midwifery and Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner).
“At the Sydney campus, students have the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in a safe, simulated environment before attending their healthcare clinical placements,” Ms Sweeting said.
It also provides a range of IT courses in data science and cyber security, which are accredited by the Australian Computer Society.
Interactive highlights of Sydney Open Day from 9am to 1pm include learning how to swaddle a baby, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) First Aid demonstrations, short talks and campus tours.
Open Day is being held at CDU’s Sydney campus at 815 George Street, Haymarket, on levels 9, 10 and 11. More information here.
