Grads to shine at ceremonies
Graduands will tip their mortarboards and celebrate as they cross the stage at Charles Darwin University graduation ceremonies in Darwin this week.
The ceremonies to be held on 24 and 25 May will draw to a close years of dedicated study and provide opportunities for family and friends to celebrate their achievement.
Thousands of students will receive awards across a broad range of vocational and higher education qualifications.
Some 17 of the graduands will receive PhDs for research ranging from helping to discover a way to ease joint pain to a project investigating how fire affects the food source of the endangered Gouldian Finch.
On Thursday Rotarian Joanne Schilling will give the Occasional Address at the morning ceremony, while local business owner Karen Sheldon will deliver the address at the evening ceremony.
Dr Dean Patterson will receive an Honorary Doctorate in Science in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of tertiary education in the Northern Territory in the fields of electrical and electronics engineering at the ceremony on Friday morning. In the evening Emeritus Chancellor The Honourable Sally Thomas AC will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of her significant contribution to the advancement of tertiary education as a former Chancellor of the University.
The ceremony for the College of Business and Law and the College of Indigenous Futures, Arts and Society will be held on Thursday, 24 May at 11am. The 5pm ceremony will recognise graduands from the College of Education, and the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training (VET): School of Service Industries.
On Friday, 25 May at 11am the ceremony will be held for graduands from the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Menzies School of Health Research, and Faculty of VET: School of Primary Industries. The 5pm ceremony will include those from the College of Engineering IT and Environment, the College of Health and Human Sciences, the School of Trades and the Faculty of VET: School of Community and Children’s Services.
The ceremonies will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre.
Ceremonies will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Tuesday 12 June at 7pm and at the Alice Springs Convention Centre on Thursday 14 June at 7pm.
