Students and professionals learn from industry best at CDU Palmerston Campus

Charles Darwin University (CDU) hosted a sold-out event for Darwin’s hairdressing industry, Look and Learn 2022, at the Palmerston campus on May 16.

It was a professional development opportunity that featured guest artists Damien Rinaldo, three-time winner of AHFA Australian hairdresser of the year, Kristy Hodgson who was awarded Australian Hair Fashion Awards SA/TAS Hairdresser of the year 2014 and 2015, Hair Expo SA/TAS Hairdresser of the year 2016. 

Also included in this fantastic lineup was Masimo Tirimacco, the multi-award-winning owner and artistic Director of ZoHair in Adelaide and who has recently been crowned winner of the Global Style & Colour Trophy 2021.

The three celebrity hairdressers showcased their skills on stage in front of local salon owners, staff members and students.

CDU Team Leader in Tourism Recreation and Beauty, Tim Francis, said the event showcased CDU’s commitment to the hair industry in Darwin.

“Having an event with three internationally renowned hairstylists is very rare in Darwin. For our students to see how seriously we are taking the industry and having the event on campus really showcases what CDU is capable of,” Mr Francis said.

“Holding this event at CDU Palmerston in our Training Restaurant – Karawa, we have converged our VET events, hospitality, cookery, hairdressing and beauty students into one event, which is absolutely amazing.”

“It illustrates how CDU Palmerston Campus can work collaboratively to showcase our student skills.”

CDU Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman said the event was an opportunity for VET students to develop their skills and learn from experts in their field.

“We’re focused on delivering quality training that meets the needs of students and of local industry in the Territory and beyond,” Professor Bowman said.

“This ensures our graduates are industry ready on completing their education and have the practical skillsets to gain employment while they are studying.”
