RIEL Seminar Series – Machine learning and Traditional Knowledge to map wetland change

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the newest tool in the arsenal to prevent the degradation and depletion of forests, with new research revealing how the technology can help protect the ecosystem.

Charles Darwin University (CDU) researchers collaborated on an international study, led by the University of Sri Lanka, to develop an AI model which detects changes in forest cover, or the amount of land surface covered by trees.

The Australasian Vocational Education and Training (VET) Research Association has presented its Ray Barker Award for only the sixth time in the past twenty years to a Charles Darwin University (CDU) adjunct researcher.

The award recognises distinguished service to the VET research community and long-term impact of the winner’s research contribution.

Dr Don Zoellner, an adjunct research associate with CDU’s Northern Institute, received the honour at the AVETRA annual national conference in Melbourne last month.
