Dr. Alea Rose studied the microbial ecology of bacteria in the Leanyer Sanderson Wastewater Stabilisation ponds using molecular techniques. In addition to identifying the unknown resident bacteria, Dr Rose’s research also revealed the functional diversity of nitrogen cycling bacteria that contribute to nutrient removal in these ponds.
My research focuses on applying Earth observation satellites and unoccupied aerial vehicles for environmental and agricultural studies. I lead the Remote Sensing and Earth Observation research group. In this lab, we use LiDAR, SAR (synthetic aperture radar), optical remote sensing technologies, and AI for invasive plant detection and mapping, groundwater-dependent vegetation monitoring, habitat monitoring, vegetation clearing and fragmentation, and monitoring GHG emissions
