An exegesis is the written text that accompanies a creative project. For that reason, it may not always follow the traditional thesis models of other disciplines. This is because ''practice-led research situates creative practice as both a driver and outcome of the research process; it also positions the researcher in a unique relationship with the subject of the research'' (Hamilton & Luke, 2009, p. 32). The exegesis, therefore, could be considered a new form of academic writing and adds to the diversity of thesis structure.
A French Sociologist once said that ‘Academic language...is no-one's mother tongue’ (Bordieu & Passeron, 1995, p.8). This is because academic English is quite different to general conversational English, and each discipline has its own vocabulary. As a result, some students feel like they need to learn a new language when they start university. This can feel especially true for the large number of CDU students who are studying for their degrees in their second or third language.
Study a postgraduate degree in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) at Charles Darwin University and save up to 70% of your total course fees for select courses subsidised by the Australian Government.
It’s a subsidy, not a loan, so you don’t have to pay it back. CSP holders may also be able to access FEE-HELP to defer all or part of their course fees.
The total discount applied is determined by individual unit selection on a case-by-case basis.

Closing the Gap in maternal and child health: Rural Birthing on Country model shows positive results
A new study into the clinical effectiveness of a rural Birthing on Country service - compared to mainstream maternity services - has revealed First Nations women had significantly more normal vaginal births, were more likely to be exclusively breastfeeding upon hospital discharge, and had greater engagement with culturally safe wellbeing programs.
During your time at university, you will master many new skills that you will use in your studies, and then in your professional life after you graduate. One of the most important skills is using accurate and clear language in your written and oral assignments.
This section has materials that will help you polish your language. If you lack confidence with accuracy, look at the sections on Grammar and Punctuation. If you have been told that your style is too informal, read the section in Grammar about What to avoid in formal writing.
