Overview

The Undergraduate Certificate Introduction to Construction Management is a 1-year part-time course that offers you the opportunity to upskill, reskill and retrain.

Available online or on campus, this course will equip you with core design, construction and management skills. It is also a direct pathway into higher education courses in engineering, should you wish to continue studying.

During this course, you will learn about the principles that underpin the understanding of engineering design, construction and management practices. The course supports your learning needs and develops your study skills.

On completing the Undergraduate Certificate Introduction to Construction Management, you will be eligible to use the credits you've gained towards further study of a:

  • Diploma of Engineering
  • Associate Degree of Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering Science
  • Bachelor of Engineering Honours

You may also use the Undergraduate Certificate as a pathway for entry into a variety of other higher education courses.

Advanced standing may be granted for some or all of the subjects you successfully complete. If further study is your intention, be sure to check the requirements of your preferred higher education course to determine how many credits you can transfer.

Commonwealth supported places

Commonwealth Supported places are available in this course to students who meet one of the following residency requirements:

(a) be an Australian citizen, who will complete some of your course of study while resident in Australia; or

(b) a New Zealand citizen; or an Australian permanent visa holder; or an eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holder; who studies the entire course while living in Australia.

What will I study?

This 40-credit point course consist of three (3) core units and one (1) specialist elective unit. This course consists of a combination of introductory engineering and business degree subjects, designed to help you develop core knowledge in design, construction and management, as well as the necessary skills for successful university studies.

Entry requirements

Admission criteria

Admission requirements are met by one of the following:

  • Successful completion of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • Successful completion of a national qualification at Certificate III level or higher.
  • Successful completion of at least 0.5 year of full-time study (or equivalent) of a higher education degree/diploma.
  • Overseas secondary or tertiary qualifications considered equivalent to the above Australian qualifications.
  • Attainment of a STAT Multiple Choice score of 125 or higher.
  • Successful completion of a recognised tertiary preparation course.
  • Submission of an acceptable personal competencies statement and/or employment experience.

DOMESTIC STUDENTS

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the standard English language proficiency requirements for Higher Education courses at Charles Darwin University (CDU) and provide evidence as part of their application.

You can meet the minimum English language requirement by providing evidence of one of following:

Previous study in English
  • Successful completion of Australian secondary schooling year 12.
  • Successful completion of secondary schooling from a recognised English-speaking country*.
  • Successful completion of a program equivalent to a Charles Darwin University enabling program, of at least six months duration full-time equivalent (0.5 FTE or 40 credit points (CP)).
  • Successful completion of a TAFE qualification at a recognised institution from a recognised English-speaking country* at a Certificate III level or higher.
  • Successful completion of six months full-time equivalent (0.5 FTE or 40 credit points (CP)) higher education study (HE Diploma level or higher) at a recognised institution from a recognised English-speaking country*.
AHPRA RegistrationCurrent registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
English Test^Completion of an approved English Test within two years of commencement, with the minimum scores shown below.
