Helen’s humanitarian service has impacted communities across Australia and the world. Since graduating with a Bachelor of
Nursing in 2000, she has dedicated over 25 years to delivering critical healthcare, emergency response and advocacy in some of the most challenging environments.
Raised on Groote Eylandt, Helen began her career in remote Indigenous communities across the Top End and APY Lands, working with Miwatj Health and the Nganampa Health Council. These experiences shaped her commitment to culturally safe, community-led healthcare, a passion she continues to advance through senior advisory and mentoring roles.
Helen’s humanitarian work spans earthquake-hit Nepal and the Philippines, refugee camps in Greece, and conflict zones in Iraq and Ukraine. Her leadership in crisis response has ensured that vulnerable populations receive essential medical care and psychosocial support.
Beyond the frontline, Helen is an advocate, mentor and researcher. As an Ambassador for World Youth International, she empowers young leaders in global health. Currently undertaking a PhD at Monash University, she is researching mental resilience among disaster medical teams. Her work has been recognised with national and international honours, including the HACCI Community Service Award, QBANK Local Hero Award and the Agape Foundation Woman of the Year.
