Sherkeira is a proud Eastern Arrernte and Arabana woman from Alice Springs (Mparntwe), where she continues to live and raise her family. Deeply connected to her community, she is the proud mother of four children and part of three generations who attended the same local primary school. Sherkeira is actively involved in community life, volunteering at schools and local events and contributing to sporting clubs that strengthen family and cultural connection.
Having experienced profound loss from a young age, including the deaths of close family members, Sherkeira’s early life shaped her resilience, empathy, and determination to support others. These experiences fuel her passion for child and youth mental health, where she is driven to create culturally safe, inclusive spaces for First Nations children and young people to heal, grow, and thrive.
An accomplished student and athlete, Sherkeira has represented the Northern Territory in netball, basketball, and athletics, and was selected for an international exchange program to Nebraska, USA. She is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at CDU. In 2024, she was awarded the prestigious Jilya Scholarship from The Westerman Jilya Institute in recognition of her dedication to First Nations mental health.
Through her work with Relationships Australia and Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, Sherkeira provides trauma-informed support while continuing to advocate for culturally grounded wellbeing initiatives. Her goal of becoming a psychologist reflects both her professional ambition and her deep commitment to healing and empowering her community.
