Trust the process and choose CDU: Sydney graduates celebrate milestones

Jabir, an international student from Bangladesh, celebrated a major milestone as one of more than 400 students graduating from Charles Darwin University (CDU) at its official Sydney Graduation Ceremony.

Jabir came to Australia with a goal of receiving an education that would turn into real life success, he enrolled into the Master of Project Management at the CDU Sydney campus. 

He reflected on how CDU helped transform that vision into reality.

"I remember being unsure about how I could break into the local job market,” Jabir said. 

"But with the support of my CDU lecturers and by building my confidence, I was able to get hands-on experience and find a path into the workforce." 

Jabir said  that while it was initially daunting to think about entering the Australian job market, the practical learning and career guidance at CDU especially from some of his lecturers made all the difference.

“The knowledge I gained through the Master of Project Management, additional lecturer support and career guidance from the CDU Careers centre, gave me both the technical and soft skills I needed to adapt and succeed,” he said. 

Upon completion of his degree Jabir was offered three full time positions. He started a project management role in healthcare service provider as team leader in July 2025 and was recently promoted to Operations Manager. 

CDU Associate Vice-Chancellor Sydney Dr Sascha Jenkins said Jabir’s journey was a great example of how international students could thrive with the correct support and opportunities.

“Our programs are designed to be industry-relevant, and our team works with students to help them build the confidence and experience they need to move into the workforce after graduation,” Dr Jenkins said.

“Jabir’s success highlights the important role that education plays in opening doors, particularly for international students pursuing global careers.”

The CDU Sydney Graduation Ceremonies celebrated the achievements of more than 400 students across various disciplines including, health, and science and technology. 

CDU Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Fiona Coulson said the Sydney graduations and Jabir’s story highlight the unique opportunities of studying at CDU Sydney. 

“Students benefit from a supportive campus community in the heart of a major metropolitan city - where they gain the knowledge, skills and experience to make a lasting impact in Australia and beyond,” Professor Coulson said. 

“Graduation recognises the dedication and accomplishments of the many CDU students who are going forth to rewarding careers.

“I am proud to see so many of our students reach this significant milestone and fulfil their academic and career goals, and we wish them every success for their future endeavours.” 

The CDU Sydney Graduation ceremonies were at the Wesley Conference Centre.

Each ceremony had its own occasional address speakers, graduates, their families and friends, heard from Hunter New England Local Health District Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Services Executive Director Associate Professor Elizabeth Grist and the City of Sydney Deputy Lord Mayor Jess Miller.
