Territory FM has taken on a more Indonesian flavour with a new Sunday program
Territory FM (TFM) has more of an Indonesian flavour with listeners being able to tune into a new show, Menyapa.
Listeners can tune in for Indonesia’s latest hits, discussion on cultural insights and current events in both Indonesia and Darwin.
Menyapa’s host Engeldis Bano, is a volunteer at TFM and English teacher at the Darwin Language Centre. He is supported by the Indonesian Consulate and CDU Indonesian Teachers.
“The program is for all Indonesians living in Darwin to provide a reminder of home and an opportunity to listen to music in their own language. It is also helpful for those who are learning Indonesian,” Mr Bano said.
“The show has music, talks, and community event announcements. It is great to have it up and running, hopefully Indonesian students currently studying in Darwin also find the show enjoyable and it assists them during their time in Australia,”
For Engeldis, this show achieves a personal goal of connecting those far and wide to the soul of Indonesia and the spirit of its people.
Territory Fm station manager Matt Bern said the Indonesian show demonstrated what community radio was all about.
“Community radio reflects our communities and gives voices to groups of people who are often lost in the noise,” Mr Bern said.
Mr Burn said it was a pleasure to work with Engeldis on this project,
“Engeldis is another volunteer success story for Territory FM. “He always wanted to try radio,” Mr Bern said.
“Engeldis was one of the first volunteers who went through our newly revised training program and is now part of our ever-expanding line up,”
“We are excited to bring Darwin another multicultural show on Sunday nights,"
Through the airwaves, Mr Bano strives to share Indonesia’s diversity in language, music heritage and values to build stronger cross-cultural understandings and appreciation.
Listeners can tune into Menyapa every Sunday from 6pm to 8pm.
