TAFE students are being called upon to capture ‘The Heart of TAFE’ in 2026 as part of The Australian Education Union’s annual national photography competition.

Charles Darwin University students currently enrolled in TAFE can enter the competition for free.

The winner for the Northern Territory will receive a prize of $1000. They will then have the chance to be considered for the national prize: $5000 for the winner, $1000 for the runner-up.

Students have the freedom to submit photographs that express their learning facilities, the expert hands-on training, or student diversity.

Photographs can be staged or natural snaps.  They will be assessed on how the photographer captures the life-changing opportunity that TAFE brings.

Pro-Vice Chancellor and CEO of TAFE Robert Schwerdt said that the competition is an opportunity to find a creative way to showcase the breadth of CDU TAFE’s impact.

“As the Northern Territory’s  largest training provider, we are not only driving the growth of a skilled workforce, but by delivering over 100 hands-on TAFE courses we transform the lives of people who want to make an impact here in the NT,” Mr Schwerdt said.

“The competition is a chance for students to highlight the meaningful change TAFE has made not only to their careers but also to the greater NT community, which benefits from access to training and a local skilled work force,”

Submissions will be judged against the following criteria:

  • Relevance and / or interpretation of the theme
  • Artistic merit
  • Emotion
  • Overall photographic quality
