The CDU Confucius Institute is offering Chinese zither (guzheng) introductory workshops on the CDU Casuarina campus every Tuesday from 5 pm - 6.30 pm, starting on 4 March to 22 April.
Zither, also known as guzheng in Chinese, is an ancient and elegant instrument from over 2000 years ago. It has been a necessary part of events that display traditional Chinese music.
The Guzheng Performance introductory course starts with a brief introduction to the history of the guzheng and its structure. Then, we will learn to recognise the guzheng’s scales. Finally, we will study three simple yet highly representative Chinese pieces: A Laugh in the Sea《沧海一声笑》, Moonlight on the Spring River《春江花月夜》, and Jasmine Flower《茉莉花》. Through these pieces, we will explore the fundamental techniques of guzheng performance and reinforce them through practice.
Eight sessions will be delivered.
Applicable to people with any proficiency level in playing guzheng.
