A modern take on Dongshan grass weaving
Dongshan grass weaving, a proud representative of Hainan’s intangible cultural heritage, is known for its eco-friendly use of natural plant materials and its blend of practicality and beauty. In this workshop, we will use papyrus to learn basic techniques inspired by Dongshan weaving, while exploring the similarities and differences between this tradition and the grass weaving practices of Darwin’s Indigenous communities.
This hands-on experience offers more than just a craft—it’s a journey of cultural discovery and self-reflection. Weaving encourages patience and focus, helps relieve stress, and creates space for inner calm. By comparing the techniques and stories behind two distinct but connected traditions, we open the door to meaningful cross-cultural appreciation.
Come join us to experience the beauty of handmade weaving, connect with nature, and discover how different cultures share common threads—one strand at a time.
Registration is limited to 8 people.
