Frequently asked questions

What is TAFE?

Technical and Further Education (TAFE) is an education and training option that builds on more job-related technical skills and practical work skills. We consult with industry and businesses regularly to match our training with their needs so that you can choose a course that meets your needs.

Why should I study a TAFE package?

A TAFE package provides a pathway into further study, with some undergraduate courses available to students who have completed a certificate IV or higher.

What are the entry requirements for a TAFE package?

To study a TAFE Package at CDU, you must meet the required English and academic entry requirements.

All of the TAFE packages start with a certificate program, to meet academic requirements for entry into a certificate you will require a qualification equivalent to Australian Year 10.

If your previous study was undertaken in a language other than English, you may need to take an English language test to demonstrate you meet the English language requirements for your package. If you have previously studied in English, you may be exempt. Your eligibility will be assessed as part of your application.

English tests and levels we accept:

  • IELTS Academic Module: A minimum overall score of 5.5 with no band less than 5.0.
  • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): A minimum overall score of 165
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module: A minimum overall score of 42 with no less than 36 in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.
