CDU Sydney celebrates 10 years with expansion
Charles Darwin University (CDU) is commemorating a decade of CDU Sydney by unveiling a full level of newly remodelled student learning areas and announcing CDU has acquired another level in the building.
Level eight has been transformed into a state-of-the-art student learning space, specifically designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and academic growth. Students have access to cutting-edge technology to connect them with their peers across the country, and there inclusive learning environments dedicated to creating a quality student experience.
The new level will see similar changes as well as individual student study nooks, break out rooms and offices for more staff. The opening on Thursday was attended by Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore AO, distinguished guests, and CDU alumni.
CDU Associate Vice-Chancellor Dr Penny Sweating said it was an exciting moment for CDU Sydney.
“CDU Sydney encourages exploration and innovation and as a campus we are truly expanding, we now occupy 50 per cent of the building and our facilities are state-of-the-art, CDU Sydney truly offers the CDU difference and is a fantastic place to study," Dr Sweeting said.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said expanding the Sydney campus was vital to growing the University’s impact and footprint across Australia.
“CDU is proud to commemorate a decade of the Northern Territory’s University in Sydney. Since its inception, CDU Sydney has been offering accessible education, empowering students across diverse disciplines,” Professor Bowman said.
“CDU celebrates not only a rich history but the promise of a vibrant future.”
CDU Sydney was launched in December 2013, starting with one level with a focus on accounting and business. Since its inception, CDU Sydney has expanded its academic offerings and its student cohort has grown, with more than 1000 students studying at the campus last year.
Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore AO said that Sydney rightly covets its excellent global reputation for education, and Charles Darwin University joined the ranks of these institutions in 2013 when it opened the doors to its Sydney campus.
“It has since expanded with a burgeoning and diverse student population, and broadened course offerings," the Lord Mayor said.
“While marking its 10-year anniversary in Sydney, we also celebrate 50 years since the university’s inception. Over the past 50 years, more than 89,000 students have graduated from the university and its antecedent institutions.
“I congratulate the university on its important contribution to our city, the growth and success of its Sydney campus, and on creating such a vibrant and inclusive community.”
