CDU trainer helping make the beauty industry more attractive

A Charles Darwin University (CDU) lecturer has been recruited to help conduct a national review on the beauty industry's qualifications.

Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) have been tasked to review and update five nationally recognised beauty qualifications to have more students complete their studies with the necessary skills for the industry.

CDU Beauty Lecturer and Workplace Assessor Ella Adami said she has been appointed as an educational expert for the SaCSA Technical Committee to develop the reforms.

Ms Adami said the review of qualifications was in response to industry feedback that the current qualifications did not adequately equip learners with the skills needed to meet evolving industry demand.

“It's important that I can advocate for the Beauty Industry in the Northern Territory,” Ms Adami said.

“As an educational expert it's exciting to have a voice in shaping the future of beauty education, especially for rural and remote areas,” Ms Adami said.

“I’m looking forward to bringing my industry knowledge and beauty education to help make sure students are getting the skills they need to succeed in the industry.”

The technical committee, which brings together experienced beauty professionals, educators and other industry representatives, will give these five qualifications a makeover:  

• SHB30121 Certificate III in Beauty Services   

• SHB30221 Certificate III in Make-Up   

• SHB30321 Certificate III in Nail Technology  

• SHB40121 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy   

• SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy 

SaCSA Chief Executive Officer Natalie Turmine said the review and update represents an important opportunity to ensure Australia's beauty qualifications continue to meet the needs of industry.

"The beauty industry continues to evolve, with new technologies, treatments and consumer expectations changing the skills employers need," Ms Turmine said.
