Danala’s first International Women’s Day Celebration
Charles Darwin University will host the annual International Women’s Day Walk and Celebration for the first time at the Danala | Education and Community Precinct (ECP).
The event, organised by The United Nations Association of Australia Northern Territory Division and Office of Gender Equity and Diversity Northern Territory, is an important milestone for CDU’s advocacy efforts to advance gender equality.
The celebration bringing together influential Territorian women, leaders and educators to celebrate women’s achievements.
The theme for 2026 is Rights, Justice and Action.
CDU will be co-hosting a variety of informative sessions and stall holders. This will showcase local organisations, change makers and influential women who are supporting women and girls across the Northern Territory.
This includes a panel discussion with Territorian leaders, exploring what justice, safety and equality looks like in practice.
CDU Acting Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Fiona Coulson said it was important to work towards justice for all women and girls, and the university was proud to play a small part in maintaining awareness.
“During a time that systems of justice are strained, we must persevere in breaking down the barriers women face accessing justice around the world,” Professor Coulson said.
“I hope everyone can come together and support women’s movements for a just and equitable future."
CDU’s Student Council (CDUSC) will also be partaking in Saturday’s walk and the panel to follow.
CDUSC President Shishata Bhandari said the council would also like to use this day to celebrate the achievements of women in the council.
“In the true spirit of this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Rights, Justice and Action,” we proudly celebrate that the CDUSC Executive team, is led predominantly by dynamic, driven, and inspiring young women,” Ms Bhandari said,
“Our passion for leadership, commitment to service, and dedication to expanding opportunities for all students reflect the very essence of this important day.”
“CDUSC stands strong in its mission to champion inclusive representation across CDU, ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and empowered within our university community.”
The walk begins at Danala Campus this Saturday at 8am.
A free sausage sizzle will be provided by the Lions Club of Casuarina. Coffee from My Little Coffee House and fresh juice from Harvest Press will be available outside Level 1.
