Charles Darwin University (CDU) is continuing its work to strengthen quality assurance and address historical compliance matters.

A comprehensive review of historical delivery within the Electrotechnology (UEE) Training Package identified gaps in assessment evidence relating to a single workplace health and safety unit of competency, UEECD0007 – Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace. As a result, CDU is commencing a targeted remediation program and is contacting 193 current and former students who undertook training between January 2025 and April 2026.

The review confirmed that remediation is limited to a single unit of competency. It also confirmed that no electrical apprentices require remediation and the matter does not affect licensed electricians. 

CDU will determine whether affected current and former students can demonstrate competency through existing workplace evidence or recognised prior learning. 

Where this is not possible, students will need to complete approximately one day of gap assessment. This will be provided at no cost, and the University will work directly with affected individuals and employers to minimise barriers to participation and provide support where required. 

The remediation process is designed to ensure all competency requirements have been demonstrated and that CDU qualifications continue to meet nationally recognised standards. The University will contact all affected students directly using the contact details held on file. Students' qualifications remain valid while the remediation process is undertaken.

CDU has advised the Northern Territory Minister for Education and the Department of Education of this matter.
