Hair and beauty students rolled out the red carpet for a star-struck night of Hollywood glamour during an awards show at Charles Darwin University’s Palmerston campus.

The 55 students sent models down the runway with big hair, classic makeup and glitzy nails to the delight of more than 200 guests at the “Time to Shine – Red Carpet” event.

Team leader Linda Manning said the red carpet-themed competition showcased skills the students gained in their courses in areas including hairdressing, beauty therapy, beauty services and nail technology.

“The show was a sell-out and the room was absolutely pumping,” Ms Manning said.

“We saw some amazing work on the runway and, with industry representatives in the audience, we are hoping to see some job opportunities arise from this.”

She said the event reflected the Vocational Education and Training sales and personal services team’s commitment to the industry.

Students who received awards at the event included:

Barbering award, Certificate III Hairdressing student Roxanne Fletcher

Bridal Hair award, IAM Hair and Beauty Salon apprentice Kaitlin Keys

Fantasy Hair award and Colour and Cut award, Certificate III Hairdressing student Jodie Robinson

Creative Upstyle award, Miilan Hair apprentice Paige Hercus

Creative Make-up award, Certificate III Beauty Services student Zoe Nankivell

Nail Art award, Certificate II Nail Technology Pamela Wilson

VET in Schools students, led by lecturers Michelle Rojo and Jason Wilkes, prepared food for the event and offered waitering services.
