New book a snapshot of Hellenic settlement
After two years of rigorous peer reviews, a compilation of papers delivered at the 2017 inaugural three-leg “Perspectives on the Hellenic Diaspora” conference will be launched as a book at Casuarina campus on 11 April.
Also titled “Perspectives on the Hellenic Diaspora”, the book is the first major publication of the CDU Hellenic Studies program, which exists within the College of Indigenous Futures, Arts and Society.
“I am delighted to have been one of the book’s editors and to have worked with some of the most renowned academics in their fields from Australia and around the world,” Hellenic Studies Associate Professor George Frazis said.
“The papers contained in the book are about Greeks in Romania, in Asia Minor, America, Australia and especially the Greek diaspora in the Northern Territory.”
The 11 April ceremony also will provide an opportunity for the university to thank the Greek Guardians for their support and sponsorship of the Hellenic Studies program and will include a presentation of awards to graduates who took part in the 2018 international examinations for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek.
“ ‘Perspectives on the Hellenic Diaspora’ is the first edition based on our inaugural conference and there will be another edition in two years based on the second biennial conference, which starts at Casuarina campus and progresses to the University of the Aegean in June and finishes up at the University of Macedonia in July,” Dr Frazis said.
“The conferences in Greece will coincide with CDU’s annual Greek Language and Hellenic Studies in-country study program, which is a valuable language and culture program for our students.”
The publication of “Perspectives on the Hellenic Diaspora” was fully supported by the NT Government and the Charles Darwin University Foundation (Greek Guardians).
The event to thank the Greek Guardians and to launch “Perspectives on the Hellenic Diaspora” will take place on CDU’s Casuarina campus.
